Acne: Know the basics.
Acne; that's the short form for medical term known as Acne Vulgaris.
Although we usually use this word interchangeably with pimples/zits, this word encompasses a wider spectrum which include whiteheads, blackheads, pastules, papules, nodules and cysts.
Sounds too much to handle? Fret not, terms such as pustules, papules, nodules and cysts essentially refer to the severity of the pimple i.e. large/small, pus-filled or non pus-filled.

You'd seldom see any inflammation for blackheads/whiteheads. However, swelling will start to develop when these blackheads/whiteheads turn into papules/pustules. The swelling is resulted by our own body's immunity mechanism to fight against bacteria growth.
Our body will deploy more white blood cells to the affected areas to fight off the acne-causing bacteria known as Propionibacterium Acnes (P.Acnes).
Do note that the probability of scarring for such type of pimple is much higher and therefore, our best advise is to keep your itchy fingers away!
